South 24 Paragnas, 01 March (H.S.): Two brothers beat their own brother to death following a dispute over their father's savings in Basanti area of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district. The police have detained one suspect, while the other remains at large.

According to police sources, the deceased's name is Yusuf Ali Mollah (44). He was a resident of Hadbhangi village under North Mokambediya Panchayat under Basanti police station area. Yusuf was the eldest of three brothers. Their father had passed away a few days earlier, and the three brothers—Yusuf Ali Mollah, Syed Ali Mollah, and Saifuddin Mollah—had been constantly arguing over the cash left behind by their father.

The dispute escalated on Saturday evening. Allegedly, Syed Ali and Saifuddin brutally attacked Yusuf with sticks. Yusuf, who was seriously injured, died on the spot. On information, the police from Basanti police station arrived at the scene with a heavy force, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem.

Based on the family's complaint, the police have arrested Syed Ali Mollah. The main accused, Saifuddin Mollah, has been absconding since the incident and searches are ongoing to find him.

The family of the deceased has demanded the strictest punishment for the accused. The police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
