Road accident

Thiruvananthapuram, 28 Feb (H.S.):Seven people lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred in the early hours of Saturday in Kerala, casting a shadow over the state.

In Kozhikode, four persons were killed after the car they were travelling in rammed into a parked lorry at Nallalam Modern Bazaar around 3 a.m. The victims have been identified as Dinil and Ajish, both natives of Ramanattukara, and Vimal from Feroke. All three were part of a five-member team returning home after completing work at a mobile tower site. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was badly mangled, trapping the occupants inside.

Fire and rescue personnel had to cut open the vehicle to pull out the victims and the injured. Two others who were in the car sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospitals in the city. One of them is undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while the other has been admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. Police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, including whether poor visibility or driver fatigue played a role.

In a separate incident in Thiruvananthapuram, three young men were killed in a motorcycle collision at Karaman around 1:30 a.m. The deceased have been identified as Sajin and Pranav, both natives of Neyyattinkara and employed as hotel workers, along with Rithik, an interstate worker.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when two motorcycles collided with each other. None of the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. All three sustained severe head injuries and reportedly died due to excessive bleeding.

The twin tragedies have once again raised concerns about road safety, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility is low and fatigue may impair judgment. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to traffic rules, and wear protective gear to prevent such fatal accidents.
