Guwahati, 28 February (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday paid heartfelt tributes to the towering Karbi leader Semsonsing Engti on his death anniversary, recalling his lifelong dedication to safeguarding the rights, dignity and identity of the tribal communities of the state.

In a social media message shared on the occasion, Dr. Sarma described Engti as the “father of Karbi Anglong,” who devoted his entire life to the cause of his people and played a pivotal role in uniting the Karbi community. He said Engti’s relentless efforts laid the foundation for progress, unity and self-respect in Karbi Anglong and the greater hill regions of Assam.

The Chief Minister noted that Engti’s contributions in shaping a new destiny for the region remain unforgettable and continue to inspire generations. He added that the late leader’s ideals, fighting spirit and commitment to social service would always serve as a guiding force for the youth.
