Nalbari (Assam), 28 February (HS): With the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly elections approaching, political activities across the state have intensified. While major parties, including the Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are yet to release their lists of candidates, the BJP has indicated that its announcement is imminent.
State BJP President Dilip Saikia stated that the party’s candidate list will be declared soon after the Doul (Holi) festival. He informed that following a meeting of the Central Parliamentary Board, the first and second lists of candidates will be sent from the party’s national headquarters in New Delhi.
Saikia made these remarks while interacting with media persons during the inauguration of the North Nalbari Mandal BJP office. The office was formally inaugurated by him in the presence of local MLA and Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, District BJP President Jayanta Buzarbaruah and Mandal President Nandalal Sarkar.
Meanwhile, speaking about the party’s ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’, Saikia said the campaign commenced on Friday under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Organised by the BJP to seek the blessings of the people, the yatra began from Dhekiajuli and will travel across various constituencies and regions of the state. The first phase of the yatra will conclude on March 9 in Bajali, Tihu, Nalbari and Rangia Assembly constituencies.
He further stated that the Chief Minister will seek public blessings daily during the yatra, expressing confidence that the unprecedented development witnessed in Assam over the past decade, particularly in the last five years in terms of development and security, will translate into support and blessings for the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.------------
