Kolkata, 24 February (H.S.): A heartbreaking incident has come to light in Dhupguri, where a son allegedly beat his own father to death over a minor dispute. The incident occurred on Tuesday in Shalbari-Jurapani area of Dhupguri subdivision.

The deceased has been identified as Suklal Mandal, a resident of Shalbari-Jurapani area. According to family members, an argument broke out between Suklal Mandal and his elder son, Ramnath Mandal, on Tuesday morning over the division of a betel nut tree. The dispute escalated and Ramnath Mandal and his associate, Shilpi Mandal, allegedly attacked Suklal.

The family alleged that Suklal Mandal was first hit with a bucket and then brutally kicked and punched. The younger son, Susanta Mandal, who tried to intervene, was also injured in the attack. Seriously injured Suklal Mandal was immediately rushed to Dhupguri Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The deceased's wife and daughter clearly allege that Suklal died due to beatings by his elder son, Ramnath Mandal. However, as of this time, no written complaint had been filed by the family. The police arrived at the hospital, spoke with the family, and initiated a preliminary investigation. The main accused, Ramnath Mandal, has been taken into custody.

The police have sent the deceased's body for a postmortem. Police officials said the actual cause of death will be confirmed only after the postmortem report is received. Meanwhile, the deceased's daughter, Pramila Mandal, said, There was a fight over a betel nut tree. The elder brother assaulted my father, which is what led to his death.

The police have assured that strict legal action will be taken in the case as soon as a complaint is filed.
