New Delhi, 21 February (H.S.): Security agencies in India's capital have declared a high alert following credible intelligence about a potential terrorist attack orchestrated by the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Reports indicate that the outfit is plotting an improvised explosive device (IED) assault, with historical sites around the Red Fort and crowded Chandni Chowk emerging as prime targets, particularly prominent temples in these areas.
Sources reveal that LeT operatives may focus on a major temple near the Red Fort and another in the bustling Chandni Chowk market, though no official confirmation of exact locations has been disclosed publicly. This escalation stems directly from the devastating suicide bombing on February 6, 2026, at the Khadija Tul Kubra Shia mosque—also known as Terlai Imambargah—in Islamabad's Tarlai Kalan area during Friday prayers, which killed at least 31 people and injured 169 others.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for that attack, but LeT appears motivated to retaliate against India in response.
In immediate response, Delhi Police and central agencies have ramped up deployments around the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk, and adjacent zones on this Saturday.
Additional forces are conducting intensive checks at markets, parking areas, and religious sites, while surveillance on suspicious activities intensifies through heightened CCTV monitoring and patrols.
A senior police officer emphasized that these precautionary steps aim to thwart any plot, urging the public to remain vigilant and report anomalies without spreading rumors.
