Doha, 06 November (H.S.):

Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Friday, during which the two leaders discussed diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region. The Emir is believed to have discussed a proposal concerning Iran’s nuclear programme.

Arab News published a brief account of the telephone conversation between the Emir and Trump. The discussion came a day after an Iranian official disclosed on Thursday that Tehran had conveyed a proposal related to its nuclear programme to the United States through Qatar. According to the official, discussions on the proposal would take place only after Washington fulfilled Iran’s seven demands.

US is currently reviewing the proposal, according to the Iranian official, who did not disclose further details. Tehran has demanded the lifting of US sanctions, the release of its frozen assets and compensation for damages caused by the war, among other conditions.

US, meanwhile, has maintained that nuclear issues must form part of any initial negotiations with Iran.
