Kathmandu, 03 November (H.S.): Nepal’s anti-corruption watchdog, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), has filed a corruption case before the Special Court against former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, former minister and Nepali Congress leader Dr Minendra Rijal, and 95 others.
The commission registered the case on Tuesday over allegations of the sale of land exceeding the prescribed ceiling held by the Rijal Canning Company, also known as Rijal Tashi Industries, in Itahari, Sunsari district.
According to the commission, the company owned land beyond the legally permitted limit. The allegations state that the excess land was sold under the pretext of a land exchange after obtaining approval through a Cabinet decision.
The CIAA has alleged that during Madhav Kumar Nepal’s tenure as Prime Minister, the Cabinet granted permission at a meeting to sell land exceeding the prescribed ceiling. On the basis of these allegations, the commission has filed a corruption case against the former Prime Minister, the former minister and the other accused before the Special Court.
