Moscow, 02 November (H.S.): Israeli Ambassador to Russia Oded Joseph has said that the fundamental basis of bilateral relations between Russia and Israel remains unchanged despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He noted that although the two countries have differences on several issues, their longstanding tradition of mutual respect and dialogue continues.

In an interview with Russia’s international news agency RIA Novosti, Ambassador Oded Joseph acknowledged that the Ukraine conflict had affected relations between the two countries but maintained that it had not altered their underlying character. He said the relationship continued to rest on a foundation of mutual respect.

Joseph clarified that Israel did not agree with every aspect of Russia’s policies. Nevertheless, it had not closed the channels of communication with Moscow. High-level dialogue between the two countries also remained ongoing, he added.

The Israeli ambassador emphasised that relations with Russia had been important to Israel since the establishment of the State of Israel, and that their significance remained undiminished.

His remarks are being viewed as an indication of Israel’s intention to maintain diplomatic engagement with Russia despite the continuing conflict in Ukraine.
