Rawalpindi, 02 November (H.S.): Pakistan’s military has warned the Afghan Taliban regime that it will face serious consequences if it does not stop supporting militant organisations operating inside Pakistan. Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, issued the warning during an interview with foreign media.
Lieutenant General Chaudhry alleged that India was playing a role in promoting terrorism in Pakistan and accused the Afghan Taliban regime of acting as its proxy. He described organisations such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) as alleged Indian proxies and accused the Afghan Taliban of providing them assistance.
He claimed that the Afghan Taliban were using non-state actors, militias and mercenaries to pursue their objectives. According to him, various intelligence agencies and proxy groups had established a long-standing presence in Afghanistan.
The ISPR chief also referred to the alleged presence in Afghanistan of international militant organisations, including Jaish al-Adl, Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP).
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry alleged that the Afghan Taliban regime had provided shelter to TTP chief Noor Wali Mehsud, BLA commander Bashir Zeb and militant leader Gul Bahadur. He further claimed that weapons and other essential supplies were being channelled from Afghan territory to militant organisations operating inside Pakistan.
He said Pakistan’s demand was straightforward: the Afghan Taliban must ensure that its territory was not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan and must immediately end all forms of support for militant organisations operating inside the country.
The ISPR Director General also urged the international community to exert pressure on the Afghan Taliban regime. He said the authorities in Kabul should act responsibly, put an end to the cultivation and production of narcotics, and address regional security concerns.
He asserted that Pakistan’s armed forces were fully capable of countering all potential threats originating from Afghanistan, including drone attacks.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reiterated that if Pakistan’s security concerns were not taken seriously and the Afghan Taliban failed to change its policy, the regime would have to face serious consequences.
