Islamabad, 02 November (H.S.): Tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border have escalated once again after Afghan Taliban border posts allegedly opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani security positions in the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan. In response, Pakistani security forces launched retaliatory action, targeting several Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defensive installations. According to the Deputy Commissioner of South Waziristan, Afghan Taliban fighters abandoned their posts and fled following the Pakistani response.

According to Pakistan’s Urdu-language television channel Dunya News and Geo News, the Deputy Commissioner shared details of the incident on social media platform X on Sunday. He stated that Pakistani security positions in the Angoor Adda sector had come under sustained firing from Afghan border posts, prompting security forces to respond immediately.

The official said no casualties had been reported in the Pakistani border areas during the exchange of fire. He added that security forces remained on high alert and were prepared to respond to any form of aggression.

The latest incident comes just days after an exchange of fire in the Angoor Adda area on the night of October 27. According to Pakistani officials and security sources, Afghan Taliban forces had allegedly targeted civilian homes and the Angoor Adda market during that incident. A mortar shell struck a residential area, killing one civilian and injuring five others. Several shops in the market were also damaged.

Following the incident, Pakistani security forces retaliated by targeting several Taliban border posts along the Afghan frontier. According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, seven Afghan Taliban posts were destroyed during the operation.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Afghan Taliban regime of failing to prevent the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to ensure that its territory is not used for terrorist activities against Pakistan.

The latest exchange of fire in South Waziristan comes amid continuing tensions between the two neighbouring countries over border security and cross-border militancy.
