Tehran, 01 November (H.S.): Iran's top leadership is engaged in discussions with Qatari mediators on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a major flashpoint of tensions in the Middle East. Tehran has made it clear to Qatar that the United States must first agree to its conditions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the strategic waterway could be reopened within two days if Washington accepts Iran's demands.
According to reports by Al Jazeera and the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that discussions were under way with Qatari mediators. He said a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days had been finalised, subject to one key condition: the United States must agree to Iran's demands.
Meanwhile, Iran's security chief, Mohsen Rezaei, said he had reviewed a letter from US Vice President JD Vance. He said his assessment of the communication suggested that Washington's position had changed completely, describing the shift as a positive indication.
Against this backdrop, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has instructed military commanders to deliver an immediate and effective response without geographical limitations to any potential threat from the United States or Israel. Chief of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces, Major General Ali Abdollahi, said the Iranian military was prepared to act in accordance with the Supreme Leader's directives.
In a statement on Saturday, Major General Abdollahi said the Iranian Armed Forces had added a fresh list of enemy targets and assets to their operational agenda following orders issued by Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei to senior military commanders. He described the Supreme Leader's wise and decisive leadership as a guiding force for commanders and all members of the Armed Forces.
Abdollahi said the Iranian Armed Forces were prepared to confront any form of aggression. He assured the Commander-in-Chief and the nation that they would remain steadfast in defending the country until their last breath.
The senior military commander further said that, using modern and advanced equipment and technologies, Iran's armed forces would confront the United States and its adversaries with full force and intensity, without geographical limitations.
