Kathmandu, 06 October (H.S.): Nepal Home Minister Sudan Gurung has said that action will be taken against anyone found leaking confidential or sensitive information.

Gurung made the statement in a post on Facebook on Tuesday. He said no one who deliberately betrays the country or their organisation by violating the confidentiality entrusted to them by the state would be spared, and such individuals would be brought within the ambit of the law.

The government late Monday night suspended Armed Police Force (APF) AIG Banshiraj Dahal over allegations of leaking sensitive information. The Home Ministry accused Dahal of violating official conduct rules and leaking sensitive information.

Gurung wrote, “I have been closely monitoring for a long time the tendency among officers and employees working in the Home Ministry and its subordinate agencies to forget their official responsibilities and leak confidential or sensitive information to unauthorised individuals or organisations.”

He said, “Sensitive information belonging to the state is not anyone’s private property; rather, it is a public responsibility. Holding a particular position gives a person access to information, but it does not grant them the right to misuse it. Even the smallest piece of information, clue or intelligence obtained here can play a decisive role in preventing crime in the future, advancing an investigation or establishing the truth behind a serious incident.”
