MOSCOW, October 6 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Afghan authorities reject the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against four Taliban senior officials and do not recognize the court or its decisions, Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said.
Afghanistan does not recognize any court under the title of the ‘International Criminal Court,’ nor does it attach any significance to its positions. Thankfully, the leaders of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have committed no act that would make them liable to arrest or punishment by any court, Mujahid said.
He added that Afghanistan employs concepts of Islamic law in its legal system.
Afghanistan is bound by the rulings of Islamic Sharia and its courts, not by intelligence entities or so-called courts, the spokesman said.
On Monday, the ICC unsealed previously secret arrest warrants for Afghan Education Minister Habibullah Agha and Higher Education Minister Neda Mohammad Nadim, in addition to the already issued arrest warrants for the country's supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada and Supreme Court chair Abdul Hakim Haqqani. The officials are accused of gender-based persecution of women and girls. The ICC said that warrants for Agha and Nadim had been issued back on September 9, 2025, but had remained classified until now.
