Kathmandu, 05 October (H.S.):

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the country’s principal opposition party, the Indian National Congress, have both extended their greetings for the successful completion of the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, Nepal’s oldest political party.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge separately wrote to Nepali Congress president Gagan Thapa, conveying their best wishes for the success of the convention.

In his letter, BJP president Nitin Nabin thanked Thapa for inviting him to attend the inaugural session of the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention. Extending his best wishes to the Nepali Congress leadership and all its members for a successful convention, he said the occasion would further strengthen the Nepali Congress and contribute to Nepal’s democratic journey.

Nabin also referred to the natural disaster that recently struck Nepal. He said that India stands firmly with the affected people of Nepal during this difficult period and that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India remains committed to supporting ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The BJP president also referred to the long-standing relationship between his party and the Nepali Congress. He said the BJP looks forward to further strengthening party-to-party relations between the two political organisations.

In his letter, Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge thanked Gagan Thapa for the invitation and said that the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress provides an important opportunity for deliberations on issues such as democratic values, civil liberties and social justice.

Referring to Nepali Congress founder B.P. Koirala, Kharge said that the Indian National Congress and the Nepali Congress have a long history of mutual understanding, solidarity and cooperation in the cause of democracy. He described the relationship between the two parties, as well as between the two countries, as significant.

Kharge extended his best wishes to the Nepali Congress leadership, office-bearers and all delegates for a successful and productive convention. He expressed hope that the friendship between the two political parties and between India and Nepal would continue to grow stronger in the years ahead.
