MEXICO CITY, October 3 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Russia sees potential for cooperation with Mexico in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and the high-tech sector, Alexander Shchetinin, Director of the Department of Latin America at the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
During a meeting in New York on September 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Mexican Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco focused on expanding trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as maintaining political dialogue and strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.
As you know, major business missions of our business circles visited Mexico last year and demonstrated these opportunities; the talks they held open up further prospects for the interested business communities of our countries to engage in areas of mutual interest. These include pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and high technology, Shchetinin said.
The diplomat also identified cooperation in artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies as a promising area.
Certainly, everyone is currently concerned with the development of artificial intelligence and information and communication technologies. These topics are being discussed and are on the agenda; the key is to have mutual interest and, consequently, a competitive offer. I believe that if there is mutual interest, cooperation in these areas can lead to specific agreements, he said.
Moscow and Mexico City are ready to further develop political and economic ties, Shchetinin said.
We are prepared to develop relations in areas that serve the mutual interests of our states, regarding political contacts, trade and economic ties, and humanitarian and cultural exchanges, he said.
In early September, Velasco said Mexican authorities intend to more actively use economic diplomacy to attract investment and diversify foreign trade.
