Aden(Yemen), 29 October (H.S.): Two missile attacks by the Iran-backed Houthi group on Aden International Airport, a key gateway in Yemen’s major port city of Aden, have heightened concerns over aviation security. The strikes disrupted air traffic at the airport, a crucial entry point for humanitarian assistance, and reportedly injured civilians and damaged property.
According to reports by Gulf News, Arab News and Al Jazeera, Yemen’s military spokesperson and the Ministry of Transport said two ballistic missiles targeted Aden International Airport on Wednesday. The attacks left civilians injured, caused property damage and temporarily disrupted air traffic. The airport had previously come under attack involving ballistic missiles and drones on October 7.
The Houthis have reportedly demanded the evacuation of the airport, which is located in a stronghold of Yemen’s internationally recognised government. Yemen’s Ministry of Transport has condemned the attacks, warning that they pose a serious threat to civilian lives and aviation safety.
Reports have also indicated that, following attacks on civilian airports in October, the Saudi-led coalition destroyed 82 Houthi sites.
