MOSCOW, October 28 (HS/RIA Novosti) - El Dabaa nuclear power plant, which Egypt is building in cooperation with Russia, is expected to be ready for operation in two years or less, Egyptian Electricity and Renewable Energy Minister Mahmoud Esmat said on Wednesday.
El Dabaa is a huge project, Esmat said at the Russia-Africa summit. At a certain time, maybe a couple of years from now or maybe less, we will have a nuclear plant in operation and aside [from] it another two plants that are still in construction, if you like, or in a commissioning phase.
The minister noted that more than 30 people are currently working at the site, and he also addressed matters concerning logistics, safety and coordination. According to him, Rosatom is coordinating the activities of contractors and supply chains, and has also assisted in sourcing alternative equipment to ensure the project's timeline remains on track, despite sanctions.
The third Russia-Africa Summit and the associated Economic and Humanitarian Forum are taking place in Moscow on October 28–29. RIA Novosti is an information partner for the summit and the forum.
