Kathmandu, 27 October (H.S.): Nepal’s Department of Immigration has decided to suspend the issuance of trekking permits for high-risk mountainous regions from October 28 to 30 in view of forecasts of snowfall, snowstorms and avalanches in high-altitude and Himalayan areas.

According to an order issued by the department, the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure in response to the anticipated adverse weather conditions. Trekkers and foreign tourists planning to visit the affected regions have been urged to remain vigilant and refrain from trekking in restricted areas during the specified period.

The department has clarified that no trekking permits will be issued for the high-risk areas during these three days. The permit-issuing process has already been suspended, with the restriction taking effect from Tuesday.

Trekkers who have already entered these regions have also been advised to prioritise their safety and remain in secure locations until conditions improve.

The advisory comes amid concerns over hazardous weather conditions in the Himalayas, where heavy snowfall, blizzards and avalanches can pose serious risks to trekkers and mountaineers.
