Amman (Jordan), 27 October (H.S.): Jordan’s armed forces said they had targeted the positions of armed groups in southeastern Syria in response to a shooting attack at a church in the country’s Karak Governorate on Friday, in which at least nine people were killed and dozens of others injured. The Jordanian military said the strikes in Syria were carried out “in coordination with the Syrian government.”

According to Al Jazeera, the military said several members of militant groups were killed or wounded in the strikes, while a number of their vehicles were destroyed. However, the Syrian government denied coordinating with Jordan over the operation, saying in a statement that the military action had been carried out “without any prior coordination or notification.” It said an investigation into the incident had been initiated.

Syria’s Civil Defence Service said attacks were reported at at least four locations in rural areas of Daraa and Suwayda governorates on Monday evening. Rescue teams recovered the bodies of seven people, including three men, one woman and three children.

According to the Civil Defence Service, five of those killed belonged to the same family and died when a tent in the village of Al-Tai in Daraa Governorate was struck. Three other members of the family, including a child, were injured.

A second strike hit the Al-Shayiah area of Daraa, killing an 80-year-old man. A third attack targeted a residential building in Mzeireb, in the Ain al-Basal area of Daraa; no casualties were reported there.
