Jerusalem, 27 October (H.S.): Israeli President Isaac Herzog and his wife Michal cast their votes in the Knesset election in Jerusalem's Rehavia neighbourhood on Tuesday, with the President urging citizens to exercise their democratic right and calling for a peaceful electoral process.
It is a great privilege to go and vote, and I am proud that Michal and I have exercised the basic right of every citizen, Herzog told reporters after casting his ballot.
Expressing hope for a peaceful election, he said, I hope this will be a true holiday for democracy. No one can be allowed to spoil or undermine it.
Herzog said election day offered an equal opportunity for citizens to make their voices heard through the ballot.
We are all equal today. This is our day to go and make an impact and vote, he said.
The voting took place as Israelis went to the polls to elect members of the 120-seat Knesset.
