MOSCOW, October 26 (HS/RIA Novosti) - There may be one fewer sovereign country in Europe after the parliamentary elections in Serbia, given that EU top officials were the first to congratulate the Student List coalition on the election victory, Russian Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev said on Monday.
Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat of his United Serbia coalition in the snap parliamentary elections.
I will be glad to be wrong, but most likely, there will be one fewer sovereign country in Europe... [Brazilian President] Lula da Silva after his reelection spoke about Brazil's sovereignty... The Student List in Serbia is unlikely to make such a statement. The first to congratulate it on the victory were [European Commission President Ursula] von der Leyen and [European Council President Antonio] Costa from the European Union, Kosachev wrote on social media.
It will be interesting to see how Serbia's new authorities will discuss the status of Kosovo with the European Union, since the recognition of Kosovo's sovereignty by Belgrade is an indispensable condition for Serbia's accession to the union, Kosachev said.
