MOSCOW, October 25 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that the unrest in Europe was caused by errors in the policy decisions made by European politicians.
In an interview with Russian journalist Pavel Zarubin, Putin commented on the unrest in Europe, stating that attempts to blame Russia for these events reveal the European leaders' inability to take responsibility for what is happening.
This is bad for them, and why? Because they won't address the root cause ... And what is that cause? It lies in their own mistakes, mistakes made across various areas, including the economy and finance, Putin said.
Russia takes no pleasure in the unrest in Europe, but it does respond to accusations leveled against Moscow, the Russian president added.
The Russian Foreign Ministry will respond cautiously to accusations from the West that Moscow is inciting unrest in Europe, Putin said.
Protests began in France in mid-September, when high school students in the Paris suburbs took to the streets to demand improvements to their schools. They were later joined by people unhappy with rising prices. Protests also took place in several Italian cities on October 17 and 18. In Albania, protesters demanded, among other things, the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Large-scale protests took place again on October 24 in France, Italy, and Albania, demonstrations were also held in Belgium and Spain.
