Kathmandu, 24 October (H.S.): Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a high alert in view of the possibility of severe weather associated with a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal, which could also affect neighbouring India next week.

According to the department, a low-pressure area has developed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining southeastern region. The system could influence weather conditions across Nepal between November 11 and 15, bringing the possibility of heavy rainfall across much of the country.

The department said the alert was issued after considering the anticipated volume of rainfall, the level of risk and the potential impact of the weather system on Nepal.

In a bulletin released on Saturday morning, the meteorological authority warned that adverse weather conditions could disrupt transportation, affect agricultural activities and hamper tourism-related operations.

Relevant agencies, local authorities, businesses and members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions in anticipation of possible weather-related disruptions.
