Buenos Aires, October 23 (H.S.): A court in Argentina has scheduled December 22 for the delivery of its verdict in the trial concerning the death of football legend Diego Maradona, bringing the six-month-long proceedings closer to a conclusion.

The court announced the date on Thursday after the trial of seven healthcare professionals accused of negligence in connection with Maradona’s death concluded with brief statements from his daughter, Dalma Maradona, and some of the defendants.

Maradona, one of the most celebrated figures in world football, died in November 2020. His death subsequently prompted legal scrutiny of the medical care he received, with seven members of his healthcare team facing allegations of negligence.

The forthcoming verdict is expected to mark a significant development in the closely watched case, which has drawn considerable attention in Argentina and internationally because of the football icon’s enduring legacy and the circumstances surrounding his death.
