WASHINGTON, October 23 (HS/RIA Novosti) - US President Donald Trump has said he intends to rename the Atlantic Ocean the American Ocean as early as Monday.

I am pleased to announce that on Monday morning we will be changing the name of the Atlantic Ocean to the American Ocean, Trump said at a rally in the state of Iowa on Thursday.

After renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the American Gulf and Lake Ontario to Lake America, the United States lacks its own ocean and river, he said.

Trump has previously floated the idea of renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean in honor of himself or the Americas. He also proposed renaming the Strait of Hormuz the Trump Strait.
