WASHINGTON, October 23 (HS/RIA Novosti) - First Lady Melania Trump has secured a localized ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in Alyoshki (Oleshky) in the Kherson Region starting October 29, the White House said on Friday.

First Lady Melania Trump successfully secured a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, localized to the city of Oleshky. Both nations agreed to temporarily stop all military action in Oleshky to allow for humanitarian aid to enter and to prepare a civilian evacuation through a designated safe passageway. The localized ceasefire will begin on October 29, 2026, the White House said in a statement.

It added that Melania Trump personally initiated negotiations with both countries and that she and her representatives worked directly with Russian and Ukrainian leadership on the terms of the localized ceasefire.

Both nations promptly assigned teams to coordinate the complex mechanics involved, including demining. All parties have worked around the clock since that moment, the First Lady was quoted as saying in the statement.

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin asked US special envoy Steve Witkoff to convey his appreciation to Melania Trump for her humanitarian efforts in Alyoshki.

In September, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the Russian Armed Forces are doing everything possible to resolve the issue of food and medical supplies to Alyoshki, which are currently being obstructed by Kiev. He said the situation there is critical.

Alyoshki is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, opposite the city of Kherson, which is controlled by Ukrainian units. Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo previously reported that Ukrainian forces remotely mine access roads and use drones to attack vehicles in an attempt to block the deliveries of food, fuel, and medicines; they also strike the town's energy and communications infrastructure to complicate the humanitarian situation.
