MOSCOW, October 17 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Vladimir Zelensky said on Saturday that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place during the G20 summit in the United States, scheduled for December 14-15, or in a Middle Eastern country.
In September, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Washington had invited Putin to the G20 summit in Miami. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti that Russia was grateful for the invitation and would consider it.
The US is working on this [a meeting between Zelensky and Putin]. This meeting could take place in one of the Middle Eastern countries. The US have always mentioned the UAE or Saudi Arabia. This meeting could also take place in the US during the 'Twenty' [G20] meeting. But there has been no confirmation yet from either Russia or the US. The meeting could even take place in a European country. I know that Europeans are beginning to make contact about this, Zelensky said in an audio recording published by the Novosti.LIVE news outlet.
US President Donald Trump has stated a direct meeting between Putin and Zelensky is necessary to end the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Putin has repeatedly said that Zelensky could come to Moscow if he is ready for dialogue. Peskov also said that Russia's position regarding a potential meeting between Putin and Zelensky is well known, and the latter can come to Moscow, if he wishes. The necessary security guarantees will be provided, though Zelensky is fully aware of the decisions that need to be made, the spokesman added.
