UNITED NATIONS, October 17 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The UN Committee Against Torture is waving off data on secret prisons in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik told RIA Novosti on Saturday.
On Thursday, as part of his working visit to New York, Miroshnik called on the UN Committee Against Torture to investigate the system of Ukrainian secret prisons.
In their reports, they [the Committee] say that the main injuries to people are inflicted at the first stage of captivity [in prison]. But what this is, how Ukraine does all this, ignoring all conventions against torture, norms of international humanitarian law... Well, they waved it off, mentioned it, said: 'Well, yes, we said something, now let's talk about something else,' the diplomat said.
Miroshnik has repeatedly told RIA Novosti about the concentration of secret prisons of the Ukrainian armed forces, where prisoners undergo a marathon of torment - they are kept in cages, beaten, and denied food and water. They are located in Kiev, Kharkov (Kharkiv), Dnepropetrovsk (Dnipropetrovsk), Sumy, and other regions of Ukraine. The Kiev regime does not allow representatives of humanitarian organizations into the secret prisons.
