Kathmandu, 11 October (H.S.): Severe flooding in Nepal’s Budhi Gandaki River has caused widespread devastation, sweeping away six bridges and leaving at least 10 people missing. According to Netra Prasad Sharma, Assistant Chief District Officer of Gorkha district, the floodwaters have destroyed two motorable bridges and four suspension bridges.

Sharma said the flood swept away the permanent bridge connecting Arughat with Tripurasundari Rural Municipality in Dhading district, as well as the bridge linking Soti in Arughat with Manbu. A Bailey bridge connecting Wards 1 and 3 of Dharche Rural Municipality was also washed away.

In addition, the floodwaters destroyed the suspension bridge linking Machhikhola with Kerauja, the bridge connecting Thado Bharyang with Jagat in Chumanubri Rural Municipality, and the suspension bridge linking Ghattekhola with Philim in Sirdibas.

The flooding also swept away around 35 houses in the Paiyun and Bagar areas of Chumanubri Rural Municipality. Several other villages, including Jagat, Salleri, Dobhan and Ghattekhola, have also suffered extensive damage.
