Kolkata, 08 January (H.S.): Panic gripped the New Town area of Kolkata on Thursday morning after a fire broke out in a multi-storey building. As per information, the fire started around 7 am in a multi-storey building in the Thakdari area of New Town. The flames were first spotted in an office located inside the building.
On information, the fire department was immediately notified. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and began efforts to control the fire on a war footing. Since the building houses offices of several private companies, controlling the fire before office hours began became a major challenge for the firefighters.
According to preliminary information, there are no reports of anyone being trapped inside the building. The fire department is working diligently to bring the situation under control and prevent any major accident.
The fire department has initially suspected a short circuit as the cause of the fire. However, officials said that the exact cause will be determined only after a detailed investigation.
Notably, just a day earlier, on Wednesday evening, a massive fire broke out in the slum area of Matangini Colony in Nonadanga, Anandapur, in which several houses were completely gutted. This incident has once again raised questions about fire safety measures in the city.
