BJP hits back at TMC over Amartya Sen notice row

Kolkata, 08 January (H.S.): Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding voter list verification in West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in the state has launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Posting on the social media platform 'X' late Wednesday night, the BJP questioned whether the TMC was making a mockery of itself.

The BJP's post stated that the issue in the notice is perfectly clear. According to Amartya Sen's enumeration form, the age difference between him and his parents is recorded as less than 15 years, which is a logical inconsistency. He has been asked to submit supporting documents to clarify this discrepancy.

The BJP alleged that the TMC believes in a different set of rules in West Bengal, where some people are considered above the law. The BJP asserted that there is no place for such privileges in Indian democracy. Under the Constitution, every citizen is equal before the law—whether a ragpicker or a billionaire. No one is above scrutiny, and no one can be given special concessions.

The BJP also clarified that Amartya Sen has not been issued any notice to appear in person. Considering his advanced age (over 85 years), the administration has opted for a house hearing to respect both his dignity and the legal process.

Following this statement by the BJP, the debate over voter list revision, notices, and alleged political bias has intensified once again in the state's political arena.
