Kochi, 07 January(HS): The CPI, the poor cousin of the CPI(M) has come of age and started blasting Big Brother. “The CPI(M) is a political outfit which does not have any lineage to speak about. But, we, the CPI, is a century old political organization respected and recognized across the world,” said Sumalatha Mohandas, CPI’s Palakkad district secretary.
The ties between the two Communist parties, the coalition partners of the LDF government in Kerala has touched rock bottom. It is interesting to note that Binoy Viswam, the Kerala secretary of the party has entrusted the task of demolishing the CPI(M) to Sumalatha, his old flame and the first woman district secretary of the party in the State.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) in its bid to curb the hurt ego of its junior partner, released a statement on Wednesday mentioning that the CPI was like the brother of the former. There are no differences of opinions between the parties which could not be resolved through talks,” said the CPI(M) release.
As the election to the State Legislature is round the corner, the CPI leadership has decided to ask for more seats this time. “In 2021 we had contested in 23 seats and won 17 while the CPI(M) which had contested in 77 seats could win only 62 seats. This prove that our winning rate is higher than that of the CPI,” said a CPI leader who is in the forefront demanding more seats for the party.
But A K Balan, former minister and former member of the CPI(M) State Secretariat continued firing innuendoes at Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister. Balan said the second Pinarayi Vijayan government had delivered “wonders” during the last four years. Balan’s photograph featuring him breaking down over his ouster from the State Secretariat had hogged the limelight for days. He was shocked over the denial of seat to contest the 2021 assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The group in CPI(M) owing allegiance to Pinarayi Vijayan is indirectly targeted by the rivals in the party like M A Baby, P Rajeeve, Thomas Issac, John Brittas, V Sivadasan are working overtime to unseat Vijayan and send him back to the castle the latter has constructed at Pinarayi in Kannur.
