New Delhi, 06 January (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Sessions Court will hear the next round of proceedings in the case concerning the alleged inclusion of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s name in the voter list in 1980 on February 7.

Special Judge Vishal Gogna today granted Sonia Gandhi additional time to file her response to the petition challenging the magistrate court’s order that dismissed a request to register an FIR against her.

During the hearing on Tuesday, Sonia Gandhi’s counsel requested more time to respond to the petition, citing that the documents involved are quite old. Accepting this, the court adjourned the case and scheduled the next hearing for February 7. The court had earlier issued notices to Sonia Gandhi and the Delhi Police on December 9, 2025.

The petition was filed by lawyer Vikas Tripathi. Previously, on September 11, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vaibhav Chaurasia dismissed the petition. The petition alleges that Sonia Gandhi’s name was included in the voter list for the New Delhi Assembly constituency in 1980, despite her not being an Indian citizen at the time. Sonia Gandhi became an Indian citizen only in 1983.

According to the petition, Sonia Gandhi’s name was removed from the voter list in 1982 and then re-added in 1983, after she acquired Indian citizenship. The petition claims that Sonia Gandhi formally applied for Indian citizenship in April 1983.

It further alleges that the inclusion of her name in the voter list in 1980 must have involved forged documents, which constitutes a cognizable offense. The petition demands that the court order the registration of an FIR against Sonia Gandhi. The magistrate court did not issue any notice to Sonia Gandhi or the Delhi Police in this matter.
