Patna, 03 January (H.S.): Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant emphasized on Saturday that robust capacity building in judicial infrastructure remains imperative to address the escalating demands from a burgeoning population, surging litigation volumes, and increasingly intricate disputes.

During his two-day visit to Bihar—his first since assuming office on November 24, 2025—Justice Kant laid foundation stones for seven key projects on the Patna High Court premises, valued at ₹302.56 crore and spanning 46,675 square meters of built-up area.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Boost

The initiatives encompass an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) building with auditorium, IT building, administrative block, multi-level car parking, hospital, residential quarters for ministerial staff, and annexe for the Advocate General's office. These facilities aim to modernize administration, integrate digital tools, and alleviate logistical strains for judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants.

Vision for Institutional Evolution

Describing Bihar's civilizational legacy where nyaya embodies empathy and social consensus, Justice Kant likened the administrative block to the court's nervous system and the IT building to a shift from paper-heavy to data-informed, digitally enabled, user-centric operations. He hailed the ADR facility as a hub for mediation initiatives and Bar-Bench dialogues, while underscoring the hospital's role: Justice is delivered by human beings, not machines.

Distinguished Attendees and Additional Engagements

The event drew Supreme Court Justices Sanjay Karol, Ahsanuddin Amanullah, and Rajesh Bindal; Patna High Court Acting Chief Justice Sudhir Singh; and newly appointed Chief Justice (virtually) Sanjeev Kumar Sahoo, alongside senior advocates.

Justice Kant's itinerary also featured a Chanakya National Law University convocation, virtual inauguration of a Gaya Judges' Guest House, and Bihar Judicial Academy groundbreaking.
