02 Jan (HS): Ballia police have arrested a cow slaughter suspect, carrying a
reward of Rs. 25,000, in an encounter. During the encounter, Fazal, a wanted
criminal, was shot in the leg and admitted to the district hospital. ASP
(South) Kripashankar stated on Friday morning that during wee hours, a police
team from the Narhi police station was checking suspicious vehicles and
individuals near the Narhi-Karo road. During the checking, a suspect was
signaled to stop by the police team, but he attempted to flee. When chased, the
suspect opened fire on the police team with the intent to kill.
In
retaliatory action, 23-year-old Fazal alias Kariya, son of Hagnu Nat, resident
of Tetarpur, Narhi police station, was shot in the right leg. During
interrogation, it was revealed that the injured suspect had been charged under
the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act at the Narhi police station, following
which a reward of Rs. 25,000 was announced for him. He had carried out the
incident of transporting bovine animals for slaughter. The ASP stated that the
injured criminal, Fazal alias Kariya, is undergoing treatment at Sadar
Hospital, Ballia. A pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from the apprehended
criminal.
