Hooghly, 02 January (H.S.): A BJP worker was allegedly brutally attacked by anti-social elements near the Serampore railway ticket counter in Hooghly district for protesting against illegal gambling. Allegedly, illegal gambling had been rampant near the Serampore railway ticket counter for a long time. On Wednesday night, when local BJP worker Royan Das went to the gamblers and tried to stop them from engaging in this illegal activity, they attacked him with iron rods. Royan was then admitted to Serampore Walsh Hospital in a serious condition. State BJP leader Kishan Shaw, while giving details of the incident on Friday, said that under the TMC regime, illegal businesses like gambling and betting are flourishing throughout the Champdani assembly constituency. All this is happening under the protection of the local administration. When our worker protested against the illegal gambling business, the TMC-backed gambling mafia tried to kill him. The Trinamool Congress will have to answer for every drop of blood shed by our worker. Meanwhile, there is tension in the area following the incident. A large number of local BJP leaders visited the injured worker at the hospital and condemned the attack.
However, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
