North 24 Paragnas, 02 January (H.S.): A young man died following an assault during Panihati festival in Khardaha police station area of North 24 Parganas district. The Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, arresting four suspects so far.

According to the police, Rahul Sarkar filed a written complaint at the Khardaha police station on January 1, 2026. The complaint stated that on December 28, 2025, his brother, Tanmay Sarkar, a resident of Ghola, had gone to the Panihati festival. There, he got into an argument with a group of people. After the festival ended, while returning home, the same group intercepted him and brutally beat him with kicks and punches.

After returning home, Tanmay Sarkar's condition suddenly deteriorated. His family initially admitted him to a local hospital, but due to his critical condition, he was referred to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital. He died there on January 1.

Following the complaint, a case was registered at Khardaha police station under Section 103 of the BNS. During the investigation, the police arrested four accused. The arrested individuals have been identified as Deep Adhikari (18), Debjit Das (18), Shibam Das alias Tatan (20), and Akash Naskar alias Badon (22). All the accused are residents of Sodpur and surrounding areas.

The police stated that all the arrested individuals will be produced in court with a prayer for police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to determine if any other individuals were involved in the incident.
