Guwahati/Zurich, 19 January (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived in Zurich on Monday morning to participate in the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting being held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23, CM office informed Hindusthan Samachar on Monday. This marks the first time Assam is formally participating in the world’s most influential global economic and business summit.

During the five-day forum, the Chief Minister will engage in discussions focused on investment, economic growth and overall development opportunities for Assam and is expected to sign multiple memorandums of understanding with global stakeholders. Assam’s presence at WEF has generated significant attention as part of the state government’s long-term development vision.

After landing in Zurich, Dr Sarma was accorded a warm welcome by the Indian diaspora at the airport. As part of the WEF 2026 engagements in Zurich, he held a meeting with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, describing the interaction as warm and enriching, reflecting the President’s consistent goodwill towards India.

The Chief Minister also met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, World Bank President Ajay Banga and Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He is scheduled to attend several key events, including the WEF Annual Meeting 2026 opening concert, welcome reception and the Global Lighthouse Network dinner, where Hindustan Unilever’s Dumdum manufacturing unit from Assam has been recognised as a Lighthouse site for industrial excellence.

From the second day onwards, Dr Sarma will participate in a series of high-level meetings and interactions, aimed at strengthening Assam’s role in India’s growth story and attracting global investment to the state.
