ED Expands Probe into Ganjam Sand Mafia Network Across Multiple States

Bhubaneswar, 18 January (H.S.): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has widened its investigation into the illegal sand mining racket originating from Odisha’s Ganjam district. The probe now extends to several neighbouring states, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, as well as multiple locations within Odisha.

The expanded action follows years of alleged illegal sand mining operations reportedly orchestrated by Kripasindhu Muduli, a central figure believed to be the mastermind behind the Ganjam sand mafia. Investigators are currently mapping the syndicate’s financial and operational network, which is suspected to have spread beyond state borders.

As part of the ongoing crackdown, the ED recently conducted raids at multiple sites, including the residence of BJD leader Hrushikesh Padhi in Ganjam. During the searches, officials reportedly seized large amounts of unaccounted cash and gathered evidence pointing to illicit financial transactions linked to the sand mining racket.

In another significant development, ED officials also uncovered large quantities of smuggled country liquor during a raid in Ganjam district. Authorities believe the illegal liquor trade is connected to the broader activities of the sand mafia.

The investigation remains ongoing, with further action expected as the ED continues to dismantle the interstate illegal mining network.
