Guwahati, 14 January (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday extended heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu, highlighting its deep cultural and agrarian significance.

In his message, the Chief Minister said that Bhogali Bihu returns every year amid the winter chill, bringing warmth, hope and joy to Assamese households. He described the festival as an integral part of Assamese culture, closely linked with the farming community and the joy of harvest after months of hard work.

Dr Sarma noted that the crackling fire of the Bihu meji, the rhythmic sound of the dheki, preparation of pitha and other traditional delicacies and the vibrant moments spent at the bhelaghar or mejighar with elders and youngsters together symbolise unity, gratitude and prosperity. He said the sacred flames of the meji carry prayers and positive wishes for a better future.

Extending his best wishes, the Chief Minister prayed that the spirit of Bhogali Bihu fills everyone’s life with happiness, peace and abundance, and conveyed his sincere greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of the state’s most cherished harvest festival.
