Youth Congress Demands Ban On Film Parasakthi Over Distortions

Chennai, 13 January (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress (TNYC) has formally called for an immediate ban on the recently released film PARASAKTHI, starring actor Sivakarthikeyan, citing serious historical distortions and a biased political narrative.

The film, directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad and released on January 10, focuses on the anti-Hindi agitations of the 1960s. Youth Congress leaders have labeled the movie as pro-DMK and anti-Hindu, claiming it deliberately fabricates events to tarnish the legacy of the Congress party and its former leaders.

Arun Bhaskar, the Senior Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress, alleged that the film falsely depicts a meeting between protagonist Sivakarthikeyan and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Coimbatore on February 12, 1965.

Authorities within the party stated that no such meeting ever took place as the then Prime Minister was not in Coimbatore on that date. Furthermore, the party took strong exception to a sequence showing a burning train falling in front of the Prime Minister, calling it a baseless fabrication that has no connection to historical reality.

The Youth Congress also criticized the film's climax for using real-life photographs of Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and K Kamaraj while accusing the party of being responsible for the deaths of over 200 people in Pollachi. Bhaskar demanded an unconditional public apology from the production team and the immediate removal of the controversial scenes.

He warned that if the film is not withdrawn from theaters, the organization will initiate strict legal action and organize state-wide protests. Despite the controversy, the film continues to screen in theaters after receiving 25 cuts from the censor board.
