Tamil Nadu Government Issues Appointment Orders To 831 Contract Nurses

Chennai, 13 January (H.S.) :m The Government of Tamil Nadu has officially issued appointment orders to 831 contract nurses, marking the completion of the regularisation process for 1,000 nursing professionals as promised by the administration. The announcement was made by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ma Subramanian, during a ceremony held at the Dr MGR Medical University on Tuesday.

These nurses were initially recruited through the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB) and had been working on a contractual basis. This move follows the regularisation of 169 nurses in late December, fulfilling the state's commitment to address the long-standing demands of the healthcare workforce before the Pongal festival.

Minister Ma Subramanian stated that the issuance of these appointment orders can be considered a festive gift to the nursing community. He highlighted that since the current government assumed office in 2021, a total of 5,825 nurses have been regularised, a significant increase compared to the 1,600 regularisations conducted between 2014 and 2021.

According to the health department, an additional 724 nurses who served as frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic will also receive their appointment orders by the end of this month. The minister further noted that the government plans to regularise 5,932 more nurses in a phased manner in the future.

Authorities also addressed salary revisions, confirming that the monthly pay for Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) part-time workers in primary health centres has been increased from 1,500 to 5,000.

For contract nurses whose pay hikes were delayed due to technical issues, the government has ensured the disbursement of revised salaries ranging from 14,000 to 18,000. These measures are expected to strengthen the public health infrastructure across the state.
