Lucknow,
13 Jan (HS): KGMU doctors have given a 24-hour ultimatum in the religious
conversion and sexual exploitation case. They said that if an FIR is not lodged
for the ruckus, they will embark on strike. All the organizations are angry
over the non-registration of a case in the ruckus that took place in the Vice
Chancellor's office. The entire day of Monday was full of ups and downs at King
George Medical University (KGMU) in the capital Lucknow. In the morning, all
the organizations of KGMU held a joint meeting and expressed their anger over
the non-registration of an FIR in the ruckus that took place in the Vice
Chancellor's office on January 9.
A
strike was announced here starting Tuesday. In the evening, after KGMU Vice
Chancellor Prof. Sonia Nityananda met with the Chief Minister, the proposed
strike was postponed for a day. The organizations also stated that if an FIR is
not filed against those accused of the riot and vandalism by Tuesday, they will
all strike starting Wednesday. Since the incident at the Vice Chancellor's
office on January 9, the institute's doctors, staff, residents, Nursing
Association, and SC/ST Personnel Association have been dissatisfied with the
police and administration's response. A meeting was held on Monday morning at
10:30 am. All organizations unanimously decided to strike starting Tuesday.
Meanwhile,
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sonia met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday
evening regarding the matter. After returning from there, she held a meeting
with the officials of all the organizations. In the meeting, she requested them
to withdraw the strike, but the officials remained adamant until an FIR was
filed. After much persuasion, the officials agreed to give them time until
Tuesday for the FIR to be filed.
The
Chief Minister said security is our responsibility, you should be patient: After
meeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Vice Chancellor Professor Sonia
Nityanand said that she provided detailed information to the Chief Minister
about the university-level investigation and action taken in the attempted
conversion case. She expressed satisfaction with the imminent release of the
Vishakha Committee report and the steps taken by KGMU. The
Chief Minister stated that he would personally investigate the incident that
occurred at the Vice Chancellor's office on January 9. He has requested videos
and photographs related to the incident. He clearly stated that the safety of
the Vice Chancellor, as well as all doctors and staff, is his responsibility.
He will ensure this. Keeping the dignity of KGMU in mind, everyone should
exercise some patience.
The
Vice Chancellor also met the Governor: After meeting with the Chief Minister on
Monday evening, Vice Chancellor Professor Sonia Nityanand also met with
Governor Anandiben Patel. During the meeting, she briefed the Governor on the
entire matter. The Vice Chancellor stated that any type of extremist incident
would not be tolerated on campus.
In
this case too, the KGMU administration has taken action against the resident on
the basis of the investigation report of the Vishakha Committee. A
recommendation has been made to get the matter thoroughly investigated by the
FTF. The Governor, while expressing satisfaction over the action taken by KGMU,
has asked to maintain a normal atmosphere in the campus.
A
female resident doctor of the Pathology Department of KGMU has accused a fellow
resident of sexual exploitation and attempt to convert her. In this case, after
the recommendation of the Vishakha Committee, the accused resident has been
suspended. A special committee is identifying the accomplices of the accused
resident.
After
the FIR was lodged, the accused has also been arrested. A complaint regarding
this matter was lodged in the State Women's Commission. The Commission's Vice
President Aparna Yadav has accused the KGMU administration of protecting the
criminals in this entire matter. On January 9, the Vice President had gone to
KGMU in this matter. A female resident doctor of the Pathology Department of
KGMU has accused a fellow resident of sexual exploitation and attempt to
convert her. In this matter, after the recommendation of the Vishakha
Committee, the accused resident has been suspended. A special committee is
identifying the helpers of the accused resident.
Following
the FIR, the accused has been arrested. A complaint regarding this matter was
filed with the State Women's Commission. The Commission's Vice President,
Aparna Yadav, has accused the KGMU administration of protecting the
perpetrators. On January, the Vice President visited KGMU regarding this
matter. It is alleged that upon Aparna Yadav's arrival, her supporters and
members of a Hindu organization created a ruckus and vandalized the Vice
Chancellor's office. This incident has angered KGMU doctors, staff, and other
staff. A joint meeting on Monday agreed to a strike.
Work
will be normal today: Following the Vice Chancellor's request, all
organizations have postponed their proposed strike for a day. Normal business
will resume on Tuesday. It is likely that an FIR will be registered based on
the Proctor's complaint and the situation will return to normal, informed Prof.
KK Singh, KGMU spokesperson.
