Chennai, 13 January (H.S.) : The Ramanathapuram police in Coimbatore city successfully apprehended two individuals, including a notorious history sheeter, in the early hours of Monday for an alleged attempt to murder two men.

The principal accused, 30 year old Praveen Kumar, popularly known as MASS Praveen Kumar, sustained a fracture in his hand while attempting to evade the police during a high speed chase. His accomplice, identified as 31 year old Shanmugam, was also taken into custody. Both suspects are residents of Ramanathapuram and were wanted for a violent assault that occurred on Sunday evening.

The incident was reportedly triggered by a previous enmity following a drunken brawl that took place near Lakshmi Mills. According to investigators, the victims, Barani Raja and Kousik, were at a bakery near Ramanathapuram to purchase a cake for a friend’s birthday when they were spotted by the accused.

Praveen Kumar allegedly initiated a quarrel and subsequently attacked both men with a knife. The victims suffered bleeding injuries to their heads and hands and were immediately rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for urgent medical treatment after members of the public alerted the authorities.

Following the attack, the Ramanathapuram police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an intensive search operation. Authorities spotted the duo on a motorcycle late Sunday night and signaled them to stop. In a desperate bid to escape, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and fell, leading to Praveen’s injury.

Both men have since been remanded in judicial custody. Local police officials confirmed that patrolling has been intensified in the Ramanathapuram area to ensure public safety and deter further gang related violence.
