Guwahati, 13 January (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the demise of noted cultural personality and renowned artist Samar Hazarika, who passed away on the day of Uruka, marking Magh Bihu.

In a condolence message, the Chief Minister said that the news of Samar Hazarika’s death has caused an irreparable loss to Assam’s cultural world. He described the late artist as a distinguished figure who made significant contributions to Assamese music and cinema.

Samar Hazarika, the younger brother of legendary singer and cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika, earned widespread recognition as a playback singer in several Assamese films. He also lent his voice to All India Radio and various music albums, leaving a lasting imprint on the state’s musical heritage.

The Chief Minister recalled that evergreen songs rendered by Samar Hazarika, including “Pratham Morome Jodi” and “Ei Je Rananganor Kahini,” continue to resonate deeply with Assamese audiences even today.

Terming his passing an irreparable loss, Dr Sarma prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members during this moment of profound sorrow.---------
