Chennai, 13 January (H.S.) : In a daring breach of security, a 23 year old history sheeter was hacked to death by an armed gang inside the premises of the Government Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital in Chennai during the early hours of Monday.

The deceased, identified as Aadhi alias Aadhi Kesavan from Kolathur, was visiting the hospital as his partner had been admitted to the maternity ward. The assailants, who arrived on the scene wearing helmets to conceal their identities, attacked Aadhi with knives and sickles while he was reportedly in an intoxicated state. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot, causing panic among patients and hospital staff.

Following the gruesome incident, the Chennai City Police acted swiftly and arrested eight individuals, including prime suspects Suriya, Alibhai, and Karthik, along with two women. Preliminary investigations by the authorities suggest that the murder was an act of revenge stemming from past enmity related to the killing of an individual named Palani.

Aadhi himself had a lengthy criminal record with multiple cases of murder and robbery registered against him at the Rajamangalam police station and had recently been released after two years of imprisonment.

The security lapse has led to strict disciplinary action within the police department. Authorities confirmed that four police personnel, including three women constables, have been suspended, and memos were issued to senior officers for negligence of duty.

The incident has also sparked a political controversy, with opposition leaders criticizing the state government over the perceived deterioration of law and order within public institutions. Senior police officials have intensified patrolling around government hospitals to prevent such violent retaliations in the future.
