Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai hits back at Raj THACKERAY over Rasmalai jibe

Chennai, 12 January (H.S.) : The Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Tamil Nadu, K ANNAMALAI, has strongly responded to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj THACKERAY following a controversial verbal attack. During a joint rally in Mumbai, Raj THACKERAY had mockingly referred to the BJP leader as Rasmalai and questioned his standing to speak on issues concerning Mumbai.

The MNS chief also used a derogatory slogan from the sixties while criticizing ANNAMALAI for his recent statement describing Mumbai as an international city rather than just a city of Maharashtra. Addressing a press conference in Chennai on Monday, K ANNAMALAI questioned the authority of Raj THACKERAY to abuse him and stated that he is a proud son of a farmer who will not be intimidated by such threats.

The Tamil Nadu leader clarified that his comments about Mumbai being a global metropolis were meant to highlight its economic significance and did not undermine the role of Maharashtrians in building it. K ANNAMALAI alleged that he has received multiple threats, including warnings of physical harm if he visits Mumbai again. However, he maintained that he would continue to visit the city and challenged those issuing threats.

Authorities within the BJP supported his stance, emphasizing the need for efficient administration to manage Mumbai's large budget. Meanwhile, Raj THACKERAY has been making a strong pitch for Marathi unity ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, warning that the identity of the state is under threat.

The exchange of words has intensified the political atmosphere as various parties prepare for the local body polls scheduled later this month.
