Gandhinagar, 12 January (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Monday that India and Germany stand united in recognizing terrorism as a grave threat to all humanity. Both nations will continue their resolute joint fight against it.

PM Modi made these remarks during a joint press conference in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He described it as a fortunate coincidence that Swami Vivekananda had once forged a bridge of philosophy, knowledge, and faith between India and Germany.

Chancellor Merz's visit today breathes new energy, confidence, and expansion into that bridge. PM Modi noted that this marks Merz's first visit to India—and indeed Asia—as Chancellor, underscoring the importance Germany attaches to ties with India.

The Prime Minister highlighted that Merz's trip coincides with the completion of 25 years of the strategic partnership last year and the celebration of 75 years of diplomatic relations this year. These milestones symbolize the shared ambitions, mutual trust, and steadily strengthening cooperation between the two nations.

PM Modi emphasized that close collaboration between economies like India and Germany holds profound significance for all humanity. Bilateral trade has now surpassed the $50 billion mark. Over 2,000 German companies operate in India, reflecting their confidence in the country's potential.

He added that partnerships in technology cooperation, renewable energy, defense, and security are continuously gaining strength. A roadmap will be developed for co-development and co-production in defense industries.

A comprehensive roadmap in higher education will provide fresh direction, and German universities have been invited to open campuses in India.

PM Modi expressed gratitude to Chancellor Merz for announcing visa-free transit for Indian citizens. The Prime Minister stated that discussions covered several global and regional issues, including Ukraine and Gaza. India supports peaceful resolution of all disputes.

Both countries are collaborating on climate action, energy, urban development, green hydrogen, and secure supply chains. They agree on the need for reforms in global institutions, including the United Nations Security Council, to address worldwide challenges.

On this occasion, German Chancellor Merz remarked that protectionism runs counter to the principles of free trade and open markets. Countries like India remain focused on free trade and open markets. By reducing unilateral dependencies in supply chains, both nations can make their economies more resilient.

Merz affirmed that India and Germany aim to elevate their partnership to new heights. He described his Gujarat visit and darshan at Mahatma Gandhi's birthplace as a great honor, symbolizing the deep bonds between the two countries.
