Chennai, 12 January (H.S.) : The newly developed Jallikattu mini stadium in Sooriyur, constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore, is prepared to host multiple traditional sporting events during the current year.

This modern facility features a permanent Vadivasal, a vast arena, two exclusive VIP galleries, and two spectator galleries designed to enhance the viewing experience.

According to official sources, the stadium is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 15 by the Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, marking the commencement of the festive season events.

Organizers in the region have expressed their intent to move away from the traditional trend of holding only a single event in Sooriyur, planning instead to utilize the permanent structure for various competitions.

The Founder President of Tamilar Veera Vilayattu Kazhagam, Jallikattu D RAJESH, stated that the presence of permanent galleries would save at least fifty per cent of the total expenditure usually spent on temporary structures. He mentioned that funds previously used for setting up galleries could now be redirected toward other organizational purposes.

While welcoming the government initiative, he urged officials to ensure a permanent arrangement for bull collection points, as some current areas are located on private land. Authorities noted that the increase in bull owners across the state has led to higher participation numbers this year.

The introduction of an online registration system has also been hailed as a significant benefit for event organizers, ensuring a more streamlined and efficient process for the upcoming traditional bull-taming festivals.
